In August, 1983 we brought home our first pair of Norwegian Elkhound dogs. Later the same year we also invited to our farm a pair of Australian Shepherds, who produced a litter of puppies the following year. We chose the name Silkgrass, in honor of a small town in Belize, Central America, where some of our family resided at the time.

"A good dog can be a big help," Dad said back then. "But a bad dog can make life hard for you."

We keep that in mind whenever we raise a pup, whether it's been purchased or born here. If it manifests habits that "make life hard" it is culled from our breeding program.

Our goal is to produce pups that will fit into their new homes as a level-headed campanion-provided, of course, the new owner possesses a modicum of intelligence also.

Actually, we're trying to produce the kind of dog my family often wished we could find we were growing up. Just a good . It didn't need to be a show champion, just nice and healthy and we knew what a dog was for- to look after the family abd be friend.

We're not perfect, nor our dogs. But it has been most rewarding these 19 years. Rewarding to watch the dogs improve as we just the best ones. Rewarding to hear the feedback from buyers of our pups. And most rewarding of all to be in the company of all these furry personalities.
